The bill had been quite controversial and did not have major support of Congress, including Republicans. My representative Steve Chabot voted against it and I sent him a thank you email for listening to his constituents. During the vote on the Medicare bill, there was an attempted bribe, and intimidation if voting against the bill. What's Wrong With Buying Votes? Two senators who lobbied hard to pass the bill, will leave their government job and work for pharmaceutical industry, making multi-million dollar salaries with plenty of perks. The Congress has a time limit of 15 minutes to vote on a bill. However, during this vote the GOP exceeded the time limit by three (3) hours. During this time the GOP had C-SPAN cameras directed to the democratic side, whilst they went about coercing others to change their vote. Early this year (2004) Pfizer was fined over $400 million for Medicaid fraud. Bayer Pharmaceutical and Glaxo were found guilty and fined $298million and $2million respectively for fraud against Medicare and Medicaid, in 2003. They were over charging for drugs! In August, 2004 several drug companies were investigated for the same crime of over charging Medicaid for drugs. Just think if they paid a fine of almost $400 million dollars, how much money they made off WE the People! It's enough to make you sick, and it's legal!
WE the People have the Power! As it stands now, we have a situation where our physicians and our pharmacists receive a monetary incentive for recommending what the managed care providers want you to have. And, not for the benefit of your health, but for benefit of their bottom line! Consider how the wording in the Medicare drug bill prohibits Medicare from negotiating with drug companies to offer you generic drugs at a lower price It's International and WE the People are paying the price! The price in not only our pocket books, but also in our quality and longevity of life! The new Medicare bill has affected those who travel to Canada to get lower priced drugs. The US pharmaceutical market is not releasing as many drugs into Canada, and is also in the process of negotiating contracts whereby the US drug companies can reap some of that Canadian drug trade revenue. The doctors got fed up with how HMOs have turned the calling of medicine into the healthcare industry, resulting in an epidemic in medical mistakes that the Congress and attorneys are trying to remedy with tort reform. The doctors decided to get together and build their own hospitals. One such hospital was built in Dayton, Ohio and has been very successful. A heart hospital proposed in Cincinnati, Ohio has been placed on hold, while undergoing major political hassles in it's efforts to come to fruition. In the meantime the Medicare bill has taken care of that endeavor. Doctors will not be able to build their hospitals now, due to the fact the Medicare bill has wording which will make the doctor owned hospitals funding more difficult to come by.
